ECUADVENTOUR AND COTOCOCHA
Cotococha Children
Ecuadventour has established a special relationship with and supports the Quichua community of Cotococha, located in our Amazon Rainforest, through several tourism programs and packages organized by Ecuadventour. One of our main goals is to collaborate with this local community, through visitations and activities, to further the development of the community through medical care, the construction of schools, craft shops and bridges all the while avoiding the destruction of any natural resources they rely on for their subsistence.
COTOCOCHA, ADVENTURE, FOREST AND TRADITIONS
The Kichwa community of Cotococha is located in the Pastaza province - close to the Puyo River. Its temperature is 18° to 23° degrees. It is a very rich in cultural diversity and natural resources. It is only 45 minutes from capital of the province, Puyo. Cotococha offers to the visitors the possibility to live together with local people in their homes of the Amazon forest. They will lodge in cabins built with an ancient style and will share cultural activities with the community such as their native dance. They also offer to sell handmade crafts with seeds. You will have daily excursions exploring the jungle which show you the immense and exuberant rainforest. Additional options are to experience the Puyo River by canoe, bird watching and to share routine activities with the people like the production of liquor from yucca.
Besides tourism the 12 Kichwa families that compose the community carry out craft and agricultural activities. The celebration of JISTA festival is an important date on their calendar.
We build this into our itineraries and work diligently to develop tourism in a sustainable way. Tourism can be very beneficial to several areas and communities living in Highlands and Amazon
